Biathlon News! Telemark Athletes Shine at Nationals

Telemark Biathlon athletes Kira Friesen and Natalie Benoit are soaring at the Canadian Biathlon Championships in Whistler BC this week. Friesen and Benoit have each qualified to compete at Nationals having achieved outstanding results this Winter in sanctioned Biathlon races, including the Biathlon BC Cup #5, which was held right here at Telemark Nordic Club.

So far at Nationals this week, the Sprint and Individual competitions have been held with Natalie collecting a 10th and 7th place respectively in a field of 25 Youth Women from across Canada. Kira, who is racing a field of 20 Senior Girls has racked up a Bronze medal in the Sprint and added an impressive Silver in the Individual competition yesterday. Congratulations!

Today, (Friday 29 March) is a training day. Both Natalie and Kira report they are having a blast with the other athletes. There are many activities and always plenty of training to do as well. The weather is warm with sunscreen being de rigueur! Check out the Whistler weather here.

More racing is on tap tomorrow Saturday 30 March with the always exciting Pursuit format. Watch for Natalie wearing bib #71 in the morning and Kira wearing bib#128 in the afternoon. Relays will go Sunday 31 March. Results are posted here.
