BC Cup 2 Whistler Olympic Park

It was a challenging weekend of racing at WOP with warm temperatures and steady rain on Friday and Saturday, and snow giving way to slush puddles here and there on Sunday.  However, Telemark athletes shone through with great results on both days, bringing home six medals!

Tekarra

Tekarra landed on the podium both days, placing second each day as she continues to prepare for the Canada Winter Games.  Her sister Makenna had great shooting on both days, placing 7th and 8th in her races.

Colton overcame a “jump start” penalty on Sunday with strong skiing on the last leg, as he left the range in fourth place and had to chase down another skier in the pursuit race to earn his second bronze medal of the weekend.

Natalie had a very strong race in Saturday’s Sprint, narrowly missing the podium by a scant six seconds to place fourth.  Her sister Mary did well in her race as well, finishing a respectable 13th in a large field of juvenile competitors.

Rory had a fantastic weekend, finishing 2nd on Saturday, then dominating the Pursuit on Sunday on his way to a gold medal finish.  He shot clean three times over the weekend.

Thanks to coaches Olympian Glenn Rupertus and Michelle, and wax support from Andrew, Michelle and Ed.  Special thanks to Savio from the Nordic Shop in Squamish for his extra special wax – always great to have fast skis.

Western Canadians/Calforex Cup 4

It was even more challenging in Edmonton for Jennah as the snow disappeared quickly on Saturday under sunny, windy and very warm weather.  In spite of having to ski through puddles and grassy, muddy snow, Jennah pulled out a podium finish on Saturday to earn a bronze medal.  Sunday’s race was cancelled as the snow conditions worsened even further.
