Solid Results at BC Cup 1

It was a cold weekend as Telemark Nordic Club hosted the first Biathlon BC Cup of the season, but that didn’t keep Telemark athletes from performing at a high level.

Colton Hay got things going on Saturday in the Sprint competitions with a first place finish in the hotly contested Senior Boys division, Makenna Banser placed second and Kira Friesen placed third in Junior Girls, and newcomer Colton Blaney put in a solid effort to place second in the Junior Boys category.  Natalie Beniot finished just off the podium in Senior Girls, and younger brother Pascal also finished fourth in the Juvenile Category.  Jonah Benoit (Midgets), Rory Hay (Junior Boys) and Murray Carlson (Masters Men) rounded out the team from Telemark.

On Sunday, it was Natalie’s turn to put in a first place finish in the Pursuit Race in Senior Girls, along with Makenna Banser placing first in Junior Girls.  Kira Friesen finished just off the podium in fourth place. Colton Blaney continued his strong performance with a solid third place finish, while Rory Hay showed his shooting prowess to move up to 8th place in the Junior Boys category.  Colton Hay slipped down to 4th place in Senior Boys, and Pascal and Jonah both finished in 5th place in their categories.

So the team racked up a total of seven podium finishes – great start to the season.

For some of the team, this was the second biathlon race weekend as several of our athletes traveled to Canmore to compete in the first Calforex Cup race of the Alberta biathlon season.  Brothers Colton and Rory Hay along with Natalie Beniot pulled off 4 top-10 finishes against athletes from across Canada.
