Telemark Biathlon Range Improvement Call for Volunteers

This is a call for volunteers. Please do your part and participate – we need your help!

As many of you know we are undergoing Range Improvements at the Telemark Biathlon Range. These improvements will:

  •  Improve the experience of our athletes in the sport of Biathlon
  • Significantly decrease the set up and tear down time for practices and races
  • Decrease our environmental footprint

As a result of the range improvements we expect to:

  •  Bring more athletes, and especially their parents, into the sport
  • Increase revenues over the long term to Telemark Cross Country and Telemark Biathlon

Specifically, this year, we are improving access to the range, pouring a concrete pad for the targets, housing the targets under a roof, putting in lights, and building a shed at the target end to house the generator and target supplies.

This is a big undertaking for Telemark Biathlon. Several of the tasks cannot be done unless there are volunteers.

Work is already underway! Here is what we have done so far:

  • Ken B, John G and Eric have completed the pad preparation
  • Richard has prepped an all weather road
  • Richard has put the gravel down to go under the concrete pad
  • Ken B, John G, Carson, Richard, Ken R are finishing the form for the pad and adding rebar today

Now here is where you come in for the final steps:

  1. We need 12 volunteers to help with the concrete pour (6 have already signed up – thanks Ken B, John G, Eric, Carson, Richard, Ken R! – so we just need 6 more volunteers). If we can’t get the people we will have to cancel the cement truck. This is hard fast paced work. Every job needs a person to replace a tired one. Please please help out!
  2. We need 10 volunteers to build the shed (4 have already signed up – thanks Ken B, John G, Carson, Eric – so we just need 6 more volunteers).
  3. We need 5 volunteers to do the electrical work (no one for this yet and we need someone experienced to lead this).

Work days will generally be approximately 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. but don’t let that scare you off. If you can only attend for part of a day please do so.

  • dress appropriately (hat, gloves, jeans, work boots) because it could be hot and we are handling rough wood
  • bring a cordless drill if you have one
  • bring a lunch and water
  • bring hard hats if you have them

Thanks for volunteering!
