Call for Volunteers: 2013 Tree Planting Fundraiser

Great news! Richard MacKenzie has worked with Heartland to arrange a tree planting fundraiser again this year.  It will take place over two weekends: May 25 & 26 and June 1 & 2. The area selected is on Clover Road above Telemark.

Please come on out and help support Telemark Junior Racing and Telemark Biathlon by raising funds with each tree planted!

The rate is $0.25 per tree which will work out to about $20 per hour per person (you can specify if you are planting for Junior Racing or Biathlon and the funds raised will be allocated accordingly). Also planting will be the Cadets Biathlon, and the WFN snowboard team.  If you are planting for Telemark Biathlon you can also qualify for tickets for the ski draw in November – Richard or Cathy will record the hours that you plant.

The planters should arrive at 8:30 am (morning shift) or 1:00 pm (afternoon shift) at the Telemark parking lot for a safety orientation and some planting instructions. Please come dressed for outside work, e.g.  long pants, boots with ankle support, long sleeved shirt and hat. Please bring your own food and drinking water.

It will be a bit of a drive to the site, approx 13 km or 30 minutes  (we are not planting along Telemark trails this year).  We will probably meet in the parking lot, then carpool to the site.  While a minivan could make it,  it would be better to take a truck. If you want to drive  yourself, take Glenrosa Road (past Telemark) turn left onto Jack Creek Road, go to 8 km and turn right onto Clover Road.  At 9.5 km turn right again onto North Clover, then basically keep left after that.  We’ll post a map soon.

There will be some (limited) planting bags and some shovels provided (but best if you bring your own shovels so we don’t run out).  Both Junior Racing and Biathlon will be involved and we have a common sign-up sheet.

Please bring your brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents, cousins, friends!  The more the better!  iPods are welcome.
