Recent Race News

It’s been a busy few weeks with our athletes competing on the Biathlon BC Cup circuit in Quesnel mid-January, then Whistler Olympic Park at the end of January, then off to Burns Lake this coming weekend.  Everyone has been having a great time, competing to the best of their ability each weekend.

Colton has placed well with a couple of 4ths in Quesnel, then a superb 2nd (clean-clean shooting) in Whistler.  He is currently in third place in the Senior Boys BC Cup standings.

Natalie continues her great season, leading the Senior Girls category in the BC Cup standings, placing first in both races in Quesnel and 3rd in both races in Whistler.

Danica is showing great promise with a 4th and 5th place finishes in Quesnel, then 1st and 2nd place finishes in Whistler.  She currently sits in fourth place in the Senior Girls BC Cup standings.

Makenna is leading the Junior Girls BC Cup standings, with 1st and 2nd place finishes in Quesnel and 1st and 2nd place finishes in Whistler.

Kira continues to impress, with finishes in 4th and 6th place finishes in Quesnel and 2nd and 4th place finishes in Whistler.  She is currently placed third in the BC Cup points standings.

Rory has been competing against some very competitive boys and sits fifth in the Junior Boys standings.

Jonah has had some great results in the Midget categories – 3rd in Quesnel and  3rd in Whistler.

Solid Results at BC Cup 1

It was a cold weekend as Telemark Nordic Club hosted the first Biathlon BC Cup of the season, but that didn’t keep Telemark athletes from performing at a high level.

Colton Hay got things going on Saturday in the Sprint competitions with a first place finish in the hotly contested Senior Boys division, Makenna Banser placed second and Kira Friesen placed third in Junior Girls, and newcomer Colton Blaney put in a solid effort to place second in the Junior Boys category.  Natalie Beniot finished just off the podium in Senior Girls, and younger brother Pascal also finished fourth in the Juvenile Category.  Jonah Benoit (Midgets), Rory Hay (Junior Boys) and Murray Carlson (Masters Men) rounded out the team from Telemark.

On Sunday, it was Natalie’s turn to put in a first place finish in the Pursuit Race in Senior Girls, along with Makenna Banser placing first in Junior Girls.  Kira Friesen finished just off the podium in fourth place. Colton Blaney continued his strong performance with a solid third place finish, while Rory Hay showed his shooting prowess to move up to 8th place in the Junior Boys category.  Colton Hay slipped down to 4th place in Senior Boys, and Pascal and Jonah both finished in 5th place in their categories.

So the team racked up a total of seven podium finishes – great start to the season.

For some of the team, this was the second biathlon race weekend as several of our athletes traveled to Canmore to compete in the first Calforex Cup race of the Alberta biathlon season.  Brothers Colton and Rory Hay along with Natalie Beniot pulled off 4 top-10 finishes against athletes from across Canada.

Thank You Volunteers!!!!

The Biathlon BC Cup #1 race at Telemark Nordic Club took place this weekend under rather cold conditions with some excellent competition all round.  With 100 registered athletes in 15 divisions, the competition was exciting and fast.

On behalf of everyone that attended – athletes, coaches and families – we’d like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to all our wonderful, amazing volunteers who braved the cold weather to make this event a real success.  We know how difficult it is to stand in the freezing cold on a weekend when you might rather have been Christmas shopping or sitting by a cozy fire, so we truly appreciate the extra effort it took to provide a superb experience for all involved.  We’ve had many comments about how super the volunteers were and we couldn’t agree more.

On behalf of Telemark Biathlon and Telemark Nordic Club, THANKS!!!!
